There’s no true how-to<\/em> for picking “the best school” in any area, let alone public schools in the Conejo Valley. Fortunately, we are known for our highly regarded schools and with a little local insight you will be able to narrow in on which schools in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Oak Park and the surrounding areas best match your wants, needs, and expectations.<\/p>\n

IN CONEJO VALLEY THERE ARE THREE SCHOOL DISTRICTS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Las Virgenes Unified School District<\/a> (LVUSD)<\/span>
\nLVUSD covers Agoura Hills, Calabasas, and the L.A. County section of Westlake Village. It has 8 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 2 high schools. LVUSD has a strong reputation and is often the preferred district for parents.<\/div><\/div><\/p>\n

Oak Park Unified School District<\/a> (OPUSD)<\/span>
\nOPUSD is a small school district with 3 elementary schools, 1 middle school, 1 high school and is Oak Park specific. It has the best reputation for academics. To the point that parents cater their home search around acceptance into this district.<\/div><\/div><\/p>\n

Conejo Valley Unified School District<\/a> (CVUSD)<\/span>
\nCVUSD is the largest and covers Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, and the area of Westlake Village in Ventura County. It has 17 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 3 high schools. Most schools are very good to excellent, but with 17 elementary schools you can imagine that scores range depending on the neighborhood. Westlake Village schools are highly regarded and highly sought after. The Thousand Oaks side has excellent schools too, but not all. It\u2019s worth doing your research.<\/div><\/div><\/p>\n

Simi Valley Unified School District (SVUSD)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Wood Ranch falls into the Simi Valley Unified School District. Usually, students in Wood Ranch<\/a> are assigned to Wood Ranch Elementary and Royal High School.\u00a0 There are 3 middle schools in Simi Valley to choose from, Sinaloa being the most common choice for parents in Wood Ranch. HIGH SCHOOLS RANKED<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

We should make a note here, this is not an\u00a0official<\/em> ranking. However, we think it’s safe to call it the general consensus.<\/p>\n

1. Westlake Village Schools<\/span><\/h4>\n

Considered the best overall high school. Strong academics, excellent sports programs, and diverse elective options.<\/p>\n

2. Oak Park Schools<\/span><\/h4>\n

Best academic reputation. High graduation and college readiness rates. Sports and electives not quite up to the standards of Westlake High.<\/p>\n

3. Agoura Hills Schools<\/span><\/h4>\n

Strong academics. Solid programs. Just a slight notch below the other two.<\/p>\n

4. Thousand Oaks Schools<\/span><\/h4>\n

Same strengths as Agoura High but not as highly regarded.<\/p>\n

5. Newbury Park Schools<\/span><\/h4>\n

Test scores a bit lower than the other 4. It’s still a good school, just can\u2019t quite catch up to the others.<\/p>\n

Choosing a school district can be very overwhelming and confusing. I\u2019ve lived here my entire life and it\u2019s often confusing. Fortunately, there are tons of tool and resources, and I will share my personal experiences to help guide you. I\u2019m a product of Las Virgenes schools and my kids have gone to school in both OPUSD and CVUSD.<\/p>\n

CVG Tip:<\/strong>\u00a0Greatschools.org<\/a>\u00a0is a good place to start your research. You may also schedule campus tours to get a sense of which school best suits your kids before moving to the Conejo Valley.<\/p>\n
