From Mr. Frank 12/10

Dear Colina Families-

As we enter the second week in December we have quite a few activities planned, please be sure to see below. Trimester 1 report cards went home with students on Friday and are now posted in Q.  Please contact your child's teacher with questions or concerns.  Trimester 2 will begin on Monday 12/10 with a fresh start. Please note regular daily attendance at school is important and very hard to replicate those learning experience; please be cognizant of any missed days outside of illnesses.

Last week we dedicated three days to Safety Talks.  We met with each grade level and reviewed our emergency preparedness plans that included fire, earthquake, lockdowns and social media protocols. We emphasized our soft and hard lockdown procedures during structured and unstructured times throughout our school day; we will continue to review these plans throughout the school year.

Coming Soon: 2018 CVUSD LCAP Survey

Our school district is a stronger one when we engage our staff, students, parents, and community in processes that assist with two-way communication. Your input via the 2018 LCAP Survey informs the important decisions we make each day in support of our goals. Parents of all CVUSD students will be invited to complete the 2018 CVUSD LCAP Survey via e-mail on December 6, 2018. The survey email will have the subject “CVUSD Family LCAP Survey Invitation”.  The survey will remain open until December 17, 2018. All CVUSD staff, and students in grades 4-5, 7-9, and 10-11 will also be asked to participate in the 2018 LCAP Survey process.

Sports: Congratulations to our Girls Volleyball Teams in 6th and 7th grade as they are District Champions!  Congratulations also goes out to our Boys Soccer Team who won the District Championship!  Boys Basketball in 7th and 8th grade have their championship games scheduled for this Thursday, December 13 at 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm respectively at the Teen Center.  It has been great to see so many students come out and play for our school; nice to see the strong winning traditions continue!  Look below for Winter Sport Tryout dates and times.

Outdoor Education Update: Currently, we are still looking for a nearby and cost effective alternative location to hold Outdoor School with the hopes of provides a similar type of experience for students. However, we are also exploring other options that would provide students with a different type of experience but still allow for students to access the science education and community building experiences that are at the core of our Outdoor Education program.  I have a principal meeting on Thursday and hope to deliver more specific information as soon as it becomes available.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s 6th grade Science teacher.
